What We Do

Cruising and Racing: Organized cruises to the St. Marks River and Dog Island are part of our regularly scheduled events. Throughout the year the club also organizes a variety of races, including two major regattas and a spring and fall series of club PHRF races. Club members also actively race their fleet of in one-design 10-foot Puffin sailing dinghies.

Social Events: Organized functions are held monthly throughout the year. These include events such as a champagne brunch, "Dinner-on-the-Docks," a shipwreck party, and professionally catered wine-tasting extravaganza. Traditional annual events include the Commodore's Ball, Vice-Commodore's Regatta, and the Awards Banquet.

Monthly Programs: ABYC monthly meetings offer programs for those interested in water activities. Topics are varied and range from the weather, boat maintenance, racing, marine ecology, and exotic travel.

Organizations Sponsored by ABYC: The Apalachee Bay Yacht Club sponsors Apalachee Bay Community Sailing, a non-profit organization that promotes recreational sailing in the Apalachee Bay and Tallahassee region, including small-group lessons for youth and adults. ABYC sponsors Boy Scout Troop 7, located at Shell Point, which is part of the Suwannee River Area Council (telephone 850-576-4146) of the Boy Scouts of America and is open to boys ages 11 to 17. ABYC also sponsors Sea Scout Ship 1, which is part of a national coeducational group for youth ages 14 to 21, and is organized to promote citizenship and improve members' nautical skills through instruction and practice. The Apalachee Bay Yacht Club sponsors these organizations as a service to the community. You do not need to be a member of ABYC to fully participate in these sponsored organizations.
