Vice Commodore's Regatta

The photographs in this group are taken from the committee boat at the beginning of the 2nd day's races. The view to right is looking down the start line towards the race course's center mark (at extreme right), and shows the location of some boats in the non-spinnaker class at the starting gun. The day was beautiful, but at the start of the race there was more current than wind.

Emi-II, closest to the camera, exhibits excellent ghosting technique as it becomes the first non-spinnaker boat to cross the starting line. The center mark is immediately behind Emi-II.
Again with the view down the start line, Go For It displays a superb approach. The bad news is Go For It is one-minute too early for the Cruiser-Racer class and has to turn away.
Go For It attempts to turn a quick 360, but stalls adjacent to the non-spinnaker boats.
Twenty minutes after the gun, the starting line to the right evades the fleet as the current moves most boats further away. In situations like this, dropping the anchor helps win a race.
One hour into the race, a light sea breeze has settled in and boats are moving toward the north mark.

Then, twenty minutes later, Go For It completes its 360 and heads for the north mark. Although delayed at the start, Go For It finishes with a not so distant 3rd place within the cruiser-racer class.

ABYC sponsors races and cruises on many weekends throughout the year.
